A recent report in a local Alabama newspaper outlined the conviction of J. Michael Bennett on charges of participating in a nationwide conspiracy to illegally sell anabolic steroids made in Mobile, Al. During the court proceedings, seven athletes (of an alleged 22 buyers) where named in a review of goods sold and initialed by Bennett. Among them was UFC heavywight contender, Shane Carwin. The purchases in question were made between April 4, 2004, and Aug. 30, 2006.
While it's much too early to make any statements as to Carwin's activities during his UFC career, it certainly isn't a heart warming sign. It will be interesting to see what comes out of his camp in response to this news, as well as what actions are taken from here against those named during the proceedings.
